Wallagoot nsw 2550

To the south of Turingal Head is an open 7 km wide east-facing embayment containing two long beaches separated by the central Bournda Island. The northern Wallagoot-Bournda beach (NSW 664) contains two sections of a continuous 4.1 km long beach, that commences at the mouth of Wallagoot Lake in lee of Turingal Head (Fig. 4.422) and curves to the south-southwest to the usually blocked entrances to Bournda Lagoon in lee of Bournda Island. The beach also blocks the 300 ha Wallagoot Lake in the north, the 16 ha freshwater Bondi Lake in the centre, and the small meandering Bournda Lagoon in the south, with higher ground between the lakes. The popular Hobart Beach camping area is located on the southern shores of Wallagoot Lake behind the northern section of beach. The entire beach is well exposed and waves average 1.5 m, maintaining a usually attached bar, cut by rips every 200-300 m, with permanent rips against Turingal Head, the rocks behind Bournda Island and in front of the southern lagoon mouth. When Wallagoot Lake is closed the very northern corner is moderately sheltered, though a rip still flows out against the point.
