Wondunna qld 4655

Wondunna, Queensland, is a rural residential suburb located in Hervey Bay. The Wondunna area was named after an Aboriginal tracker, Willie Wondunna, who was from Fraser Island. It was formally named in 1980. Wondunna was popular for being one of the trackers who were tasked to hunt the Kelly Gang, headed by Edward "Ned" Kelly. To some, Ned Kelly was a murderous outlaw, while to others, he was a hero likened to Robin Hood. Ned Kelly was eventually captured and then hanged at the Old Melbourne Gaol in 1880. Today, Wondunna is served by a local store, a community swimming pool inside a sports reserve and two schools: Fraser Coast Anglican College and the Star of the Sea Catholic College. Wondunna's nearby attractions include the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery and the Hervey Bay Historical Village & Museum.
